On The Water

A Walk On The Water
The twelve
were on the sea and hoped to reach Capernaum in just a little time, when all a
sudden, a fearful storm arose, and they were at the mercy of the waves. And in
the fourth watch of the night, the wind became a
whirling wind, and they were filled with fear. And in the blinding storm they
saw a form move on the waves. It seemed to be a man, one spoke out and said,
“It is a ghost, a sign of evil things.”
But John discerned the form and said, “It is the Lord.”
And then the wind blew not so hard, and Peter, standing in the midst,
exclaimed. “My Lord! My Lord! If this be truly you, bid me to come to you upon
the waves. ”
The form reached forth His hand and said, “Come on.”
And Peter stepped upon the waves and the water was as solid as a rock. Peter
walked upon the waves.
He walked until he thought within himself, “What if
the waves should break beneath my feet?” And then the waves did break beneath
his feet, and he began to sink, and in the fearfulness of soul he cried, “O
save me, Lord, or I am lost!” And Jesus took him by the hand and said, “O you
of little faith! Why did you doubt?” And Jesus led the way unto the boat. The
storm had spent its force. The winds were still, and they were near the shore;
and when they landed, they were in the valley of Gennesaret.
Power Over Nature
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the
boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself
to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the
middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to
them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea,
they were troubled, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for
fear.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying,
"Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid."
And Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it
is You, command me to come to You on the water."
So He said, "Come." And when Peter had
come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he
saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried
out, saying, "Lord, save me!"
And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and
caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you
doubt?" And when they got into the
boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him,
saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."
Matthew 14:22-33
God Is Our Refuge
In every situation, God has provided more than enough safety and security
for His people.
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst
of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
There is a river whose streams shall make glad the
city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be
moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Psalms 46:7
It is the duty of the people of God to trust in God and depend on Him.
Yourself Can
The above event is a clear demonstration of the fact that
Jesus has all power and authority in heaven and on earth.
He is truly the son of God, the same as the Lord Almighty.
Jesus is a role model to the children of God. What He
does are what every child of God can do, if he grows in spirit and in truth.
Explanations
Apostle Matthew: Do the present and modern generations believe
that Jesus walked on the water?
The Head: They believe it.
Apostle Matthew: What of those who do not believe?
The Head: They have not given any reasons on why they did
not believe.
Chukwudi: Many believe.
Apostle Matthew: Son of man, … Son of
man, why did Jesus walk on the water?
The Head: It shows humanity the various powers which God
has put inside His children, which powers of the Holy Spirit can be working in
them and through them, if they grow in spirit.
Apostle Matthew (turned to Chukwudi): Why?
Chukwudi: It shows the omnipotence of God, who does all
good things…
The Head: It shows that Jesus is the FirstSon of God, who
is able to do all things. The Almighty. It is true that people should not go to
worship God because of miracles. But, various signs were needed to prove that
Jesus is the FirstSon of God.
Apostle Matthew: Son of man, you answered it, excellently.
Son of man,
what myself want to explain is that Jesus performed so many signs and miracles,
including the written ones and those not written.
The Head: Yes.
Lessons From Walking On Water
What happened that day was the talk of the day, the talk of week, the talk of the month, because the memories of what happened did not clear off our mind. Son of man, it was a great sign and wonder. That was why we were so anxious of it. Peer walked on the water. He did not forget about it.
Son of man, there are many signs of God.
But where are the people, in whom the Holy Spirit has grown up to perfection?
Who are they?
Where are they?
There is none, and if any, there are very few.
Son of man, when Jesus Christ was teaching us various things, He was performing signs, which He intentionally did to show us the various powers in ourselves. Son of man, even so the masters do. That is how masters behave. He teaches and guides. And he gives corrections, where necessary.
In some cases, He told us to do the signs by ourselves. If we failed to do it correctly, He gave us corrections.
When Jesus Christ said, “Oh man of little faith,” why did Peter request to join Jesus Christ in walking on the water?
The Head: Perhaps, he wanted to experience such an amazing possibility and to see such a power, or the Holy Spirit wanted to use the incident to teach humanity something, and therefore, made Peter to make such a request.
Son of man, your two answers are correct. Whether Peter requested for it or not, Jesus Christ would like one of us to walk on the water, so that the other Apostles would have faith and confidence, and know that they can do the same.
Usually, students work in groups, under a master. As the master is teaching, there must be a student who is able to understand and demonstrate what master is teaching. The same student even helps the other students to understand. Even so it was with Peter.
Son of man, when you see such a student, then know that the Holy Spirit in the master is also in the student. And whatever the master teaches, in future the student can teach the same. That is how power grows. As the student learns and practises, and follows the master, even so his power grows and becomes radiant. It is worthwhile that the children of God know the things they are ignorant of. Even if they practise and fail, they should continue practising, because practice makes perfect.
As the children of God are failing and rising, failing and taking corrections, one day they shall become perfect. But where the children of God fall and do not rise again, if they fail to make the necessary efforts, they will not grow and become radiant.
Son of man, truly, truly and truly, all that Jesus Christ taught us were useful to us. All His teachings were not in vain. That was why ourselves learnt so many things, which were encouraging us, each time we remembered it, as the power of the Holy Spirit, a supporting power.
Truly, when Jesus Christ was showing us many various signs, at that time, ourselves have not yet grown in spirit. We had not yet become Apostles. We knew that something remains, we knew we still had more things to learn, and more experiences to have. What Jesus Christ was doing were teaching and practice that will encourage us. At that time, the faith of many of us was not strong yet. That was why the powers of the Holy Spirit came and took possession of us.
When Jesus Christ called us, we were the first set of disciples called. From day to day, many people came and joined as members, by their own free will and free choice. Jesus Christ was the Master, and ourselves were the ministers.
At that time, Jesus Christ sent us out, He had not yet made us Apostles. There was a day on which Jesus Christ officially anointed us as Apostles. That was when we were growing, becoming radiant, among other various people who were following Jesus Christ and who were also becoming radiant. He sent ourselves with many other people. Successfulness was by the effort and obedience of the person sent out.
